CAD + Renders

Here follows a selection of CAD modelling and associated rendering.

Below is a model done for Rights of Light/Daylight & Sunlight analysis. Only a fraction of it was modelled by me, however, these renders were a test to see whether I could set up an automated and systemic workflow to render the scene within 3DS Max + Arnold as a render engine.

As part of the process, I created a small maxscript to iterate and automate a series of tasks:

  1. Set up the scene by XREFing the DWG model.
  2. Apply some modifiers to 2D entities coming from AutoCAD to make them 3D entities interpretable by 3DS & Arnold.
  3. Apply UVW mapping modifier to all entities and subsequently apply textures based on layer name.
  4. Instantiate trees based on where they are in the Accucities/Zmapping model.
  5. Set a custom sky dome and render.

Below follows a set of comparison renders between Radiance and Arnold. Arnold was used in this instance because Radiance kept failing rendering due to hedgehog-like polyfaces where multiple edges/vertices would converge in the some spot. [note the scheme differs as it was done on a different iteration]
